Dear Friends,
I would like to thank you that finally the great work of Wells will be filmed with new special effects. But please, try to be 100% like the original book.

I'm not sure who in your company reads the general email, but this is just a note of support from someone in the media community. Just read online about your upcoming release of a WAR OF THE WORLDS film. This has always seemed a Holy Grail project out there waiting to be realized, and as a writer/director/producer myself, I always fantasized about what it would look like. I saw your production stills (very proud of you for not showcasing tripods or aliens in your publicity -- wouldn't it be nice to actually be surprised for once?), read your statements about staying true to the book, and watched the trailer for CHROME, and got really excited. It looks like a great potential match. I think I've seen the actor you mentioned on stage. How fun. No big stars to gum up the works, true to the book, AND (hopefully) no idea what the tripods or Martians will look like until they appear before our cannon.
To my mind, the only worthwhile adaptation of WotW is the Orson
Wells/Mercury Theater production, and I've always imagined what an Orson
Wells film might have looked like. Maybe (hopefully) it would have looked
like yours.

Please accept my hearty congratulations!
I have been a devoted fan of Wells, and have always wanted to see an accurate version of his splendid novel done.
Thank you.

Dear Sirs:
I just read the news that you wrapped principal photography on
your remake of War of the Worlds.... and as one of the world's greatest
fans of H.G. Wells and War of the Worlds I would just like to say:
THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thank you for staying true to the book!!! It looks like it's going to be absolutely GREAT!!! And just what every true fan of the novel has always dreamed of!!
I visited your website more than a year ago looking for news and and was very excited about the picture you posted of the Martian Handling Machine...I was disappointed that there was no follow-up but am just thrilled to know that the project has gone through after all. I can't wait to see it!! The photos on your site of the Narrator, his brother, the Curate et al are astonishing and capture the look and feel of Victorian London and Woking perfectly. I don't know what else to say except that I am excited beyond words about your remake. Thank you again, we true fans appreciate it!!!

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are contacting you from England and have read H. G. Wells 'The War of the Worlds' many times. We know that you must be busy but, writing this from England, we just wanted to wish you the very best of luck with your feature film of the Martian invasion.
We have been keeping an eye on your web-site and have just noticed the photo-shoots and they look wonderful. Congratulations - you seem to have kept this in favour of the original book and of the antiquated English country-feel.
We really hope that you do well with this film. From your production sketches, the Martians themselves look pretty grotesque and frightening and we were quite fascinated by your concepts. We are sure that your War Machines will look superb (as well as the Martians themselves) and we are hoping that we can see this film here in England. I shall certainly buy I copy of the DVD when it is released.
Congratulations once again - you are working with your hearts and have so much potential. Good luck with everything you do and with Pendragon Productions.
Yours sincerely,
Ronald & Philip Kinsella

My Full Support!
Hello,
My name is Vince and I've been a War of the Worlds fan for years. There has been a lot of commotion over the last days. But I'll tell you that I give you my full suppurt for your authentic WotW movie.
Although the doubts I've had about the Pendragon Pictures I think this will work out. Not that the Spielberg/Cruise production is crap or anything. I think they can make a good movie too but I feel more for a Close-to-the-book movie, than an updated version.
I think a film like this deserves a cinema show!
Yours sincerely,
Vince Christiaans

Dear Pendragon –
I'm an HG Wells scholar (I teach at Douglas College here in Vancouver)
with a minor specialty in War of the Worlds. I'm eagerly anticipating
the film – and since reports have you filming some of the film in the
"Pacific Northwest" I assume some of the work was done here – and would
like to know when I can expect to see it in the theatres.
I notice on the website that there are no real FX shots; are these
being held confidential? The Martian "tripods" it seems to me would be
particularly hard to visualize and film, since they are said to be
extremely tall, and to walk like a man with a rolling gait.
thanks

Dear Pendragon Pictures,
Like so many other WOTW fans, I was shocked to read that principle
photography on WOTW is over! First - congratulations, a wonderful
achievement. As a fan of the book and soon to be fan of your film, I'd like to know how shooting went, information about the shoot, the actors, the FX team currently working on the film etc etc. I'd really like this WOTW film to take off.
Just to let you know that it seems you're doing a sterling job so far.
Yours,
Andy Crook, a lifelong WOTW fan.

Dear sirs,
I read with relish and delight a recent article on www.sfcrowsnest.com that
detailed your attempts to bring an authentic adaptation of "War of the
Worlds" to our cinema screens. It has always been a massive favourite of
mine, and has the potential to be a unique, exciting movie. Never before have we seen steampunk sci-fi aliens battling 1890s armies, but now it seems that we will. I await your movie next year with eager anticipation.
All the best for the movie - good luck with it!

As one of my very favourite SciFi tales, I’ve been advocating this movie for years... Victorian England under attack by superior beings was the cornerstone of the idea and the haplessness of unprepared human life against such power was terrifying.
In my mind, the fighting machines, although nimble for their sheer size, were monstrous, mechanical constructions weighing hundreds of tons. Their magnitude could be gauged at distance, and their footfalls destructive and indiscriminate. The heat-ray should not resemble any known technology and be awesomely powerful – overly engineered if anything – for the task in hand, destroying everything in its path. The battle with the ‘Thunderchild’ should be the pinnacle of the film, the last bastion before domination. And please, please, make the cellar scene as gripping as it is in the book. The fear-factor of being discovered in that scenario has had me waking in cold sweats for years!
Good luck. I look forward to seeing the film…

Hi my name is Darren I am 22 yrs old from London, England. I just wanna say I love the H.G. Wells book war of the worlds please make it 100% true to the book that means set it in england in its true time zone and the place of Surrey. Just think of it - people would love your film much much more if you was to have it period costume people in old cobbled street towns and wearing long cloaks and bowler hats!. You know it would be excellent.

Just to say thank you so much for making "War of the Worlds" an adaptation of the novel by Mr Wells set in Victorian Britain. The helplessness of that age pitted against a threat superior even to this age will make the whole thing more frightening than "Independence Day". Thanks again. Can't wait!!

Dear Mr. Hines,
I’m just writing you to give you my full support with your planned movie remake of The War of the Worlds. As a true TWOTW fan I always wanted to see a movie that takes the original novel seriously. And so do all my friends. Your decision to make the movie in his original time and setting is extremely appreciated and has caused much excitement here. I just can’t wait to see the result! And whatever Tom Cruise is planning to do, I’m convinced that you and Pendragon Pictures will make the movie as it supposed to and you will have my full support, always!
Again I wish you the best of luck with your project!

To whom it may concern,
I want to begin by saying that I’m impressed with your website and am very pleased to learn of your production company’s plans to readapt Wells’ classic story. You have an excellent idea on your hands, as Mr. Hines’ apparent passion for the project echoes my own since I have longed to see a faithful version brought back to the screen. Again I want to congratulate you on your creative, independent vision and I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors to see your dreams get made into reality.

Bravo on the new War of the Worlds,
I just felt like I had to write and tell you folks that I'm absolutely thrilled that you have chosen to set your War of the Worlds movie back into it's original Victorian time/setting. I've been a fan of H.G. Wells' classic story since I was quite young, and I was very excited to hear that someone would be making a new state-of-the-art movie based on it. But, I have to admit, I was very crestfallen when I heard it would be "updated" to modern times... and now, I'm on an emotional roller-coaster ride, since now I am hearing you've reversed that decision -- bravo!
War of the Worlds is THE classic sci-fi story. The closer you can get your movie to the story itself, the better, if you ask me! And, I think that if you set it in the Victorian era, you're going to come up with a film that will stand the test of time much better than a "modernized" version. Forget box-office gross, and think about the longer-term franchise. If you had made this film a year or two ago, with an important scene featuring the Twin Towers in New York, think of how dated your movie would be already! But, the movie will never be "dated" if you do it intentionally in the Victorian era.
Wishing you all the best with your movie,
Rob Huston

Hi Pendragon Pictures,
I was very excited to learn about Pendragon making a brand new WOTW film. I felt that the 1950's version did not do justice to the excellent book. After
looking at your site, I noticed that you have changed the script to the 1898
setting. I think this is a good choice, as any other time does not quite fit
in with the WOTW.
I hope to see the mettalic machines!
Anyway, I wish you all the luck with the new film, and I will be the first
in line at my local cinema when it comes out!!!

Gentlemen:
Wishing you well in your new endeavor, the filming of "The War of the Worlds". Like many, I have long wished that a true to the novel version of this adventure would be made.
I look forward to seeing your interpretations of the huge Martian (tripoidal) machines and pray that you've included the absolutely tragic but wonderful "H.M.S. Thunderchild" sequence. My kids and I will be first in line so good luck to you all.

Dear Mr Hines
I have been a huge fan of the classic Well's novel since I was a young teenager, and I must say I was truly overwhelmed after reading that a more definitive version was to be made. I think that many people will agree with me when I say that it has been long overdue for what is one of the most incredible works of fiction to be turned into movie. What ever the finished result will be, it will certainly be an incredible sight to see the huge tripods stalking the English country side in the 1900 settings.
All the best.

essense of the book. Do it good!

War of the Worlds, a message of support from Woking England. Home of WOTW.
Dear Sir,
This e-mail is to say simply ‘at last’ a movie studio is finally going to produce a ‘faithful’ version of perhaps the most famous Sci-Fi story ever written. I have a close relationship with the WOTW. Namely, I live in Woking, Surrey, England. The town where the original novel was written and set, 100 plus years ago.
I even used to live next door for a time next to the very house in which HG Wells himself used to live and indeed featured in the WOTW novel. (The house still stands!) It was a great inspiration to me living next door to the very house in which such classic novels like WOTW were written.
I have an idea, Why not release WOTW here in Woking! Or failing that, have the British opening here instead of London? It would make nice change and be in keeping with the spirit of the novel. A world wide/British release at the place where it all began! We have a small but high quality cinema here in Woking.
I really do hope that you can see this project through and it keeps to the spirit of the novel. e.g. dark, sinister, frightening, horrific. The psychological aspect as opposed to the slam bang, boom, action. I saw the pre-production sketches on the PP website and I'm really impressed.
All my friends and family await WOTW the movie with baited breath, I really hope its as good as you all are promising. I really CAN’T wait!!!!
Best Wishes and Good Luck with the production. I, wish I were there with you all to see it made.
With fond Regards from Martian Country.

Victorian machinery, lifestyle and warfare and all out chrome-plated, laser-gunned sci-fi.

A film that is like the book that it is based on!

Absolutely Spiffing!
G'day from Down Under,
Australia is perhaps too far South to suffer from the Martian incursions, though the colours of our Red Centre deserts would
certainly prove attractively familiar to the invaders. Still, I'd like to heartily commend you for setting WOTW at the turn of the 19th century and not the 20th! I daresay no one could ever really say for
sure what Mr Wells would have thought of a cinematic version updated to the present day but personally I feel that he might not have minded as long as the rest of the tale cleaved true to his story. If anyone had a wry eye for the rapid passage of time and technology it was Mr Wells as witness "The Shape of Things To Come" and "The Time Machine". Nevertheless, having recently seen the excellent pastiche that the creators of the comic series "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" came up with in their WOTW spin-off I am overcome with nostalgia at the idea of a 'proper period' film with all the appropriate bells and whistles, not to mention horse artillery, household cavalry and torpedo rams! So, the best of British luck, and be assured that Australia will
stand by its obligation as part of the Commonwealth to receive refugees
fleeing the dastardly Martians and to render whatever military assistance Her Majesty's Government may request.

Dr John S. Partington
Your new War of the Worlds film
Dear Mr Hines
I have been watching your progress with
The War of the Worlds, mostly through information channelled to me by my
colleague, Charles Keller, with great
interest. Although many films have been
made of Wells's scientific romances, few of them have attempted to capture Wells's historical and ethical positions. Your film certainly promises to remain faithful to the former, and I look forward to seeing how you interpret the latter. The 1933 Invisible Man, the 1953 War of the Worlds and the 1977 Island of Dr Moreau are all, in their own ways, splendid renderings of Wells's stories, though infused with much directorial liberty - and I think in those instances the deviance from Wells's original story was not wrong. However, as we get further and further away from Wells's time, and receive film after film of high-tech special effects, it is time to introduce Wells's times into the films of his books. While nothing can beat reading the original text, film and literature play very important complimentary roles for each other - the mystique of Wells's alien invasion drawing some to the cinema, while a splendid period rendition on screen of Wells's work enthusing others to seek out the original text. While your movie will be a work of filmic art divorced from its source text in terms of media, nonetheless if you succeed in your mission of faithfully rendering Wells's text on screen, your success will be much wider than the filmic glory which I wish you to enjoy. Crafting the film as a piece of entertaining art is noble in itself, though its impact on viewers can be much greater than movie entertainment. For the success of both potential achievements, you are to be congratulated in advance, wished all the best, and thanked. Please keep the H. G. Wells Society notified of release dates of the film, in North America, in Europe and beyond, and also consider (in the longer term) pressing the film onto DVD and advertising it through our Society for members and non-members alike to enjoy in their own homes.
Yours sincerely

The Magic of Wells and Pendragons
Pendragon,
When I was a grade school kid in 5th grade and up to high school, I would often re read HG Wells War of the Worlds. It was the first science fiction book I ever read.Even then I dreamed of seeing a faithful version of the book. Being a fan of the Paramount 1953 movie by George Pal, the lure of imagining the Tripods, and battle with the Thunderchild, and woods in the Skagit Valley, Mount Vernon, Washington locals that looked much liked England (where I grew up) added to the lure that one day 19th century Wells would be done as Wells. And now-AT LAST! The final trailer end visions of the Martians, Martian Tripods and end of days ruins of the War Machines in country fields is enough to delight in your marvelous work. H.G. Wells, walking through Woking, would be breathless! Triumph!

The Victorian Edition (phew!!)
Good People of Pendragon!
So I was sitting in the cinema today when I heard these worlds: "No one would have believed..." My heart began to race, with an odd mixture of dread and excitement. The War of the Worlds! But - oh but... I thought back to hearing Azimov's three laws of robotics in similar circumstances a few months ago, only to come crashing back to Earth when a thing they called "I, Robot" turned out to be oh-so-very NOT "I, Robot." I thought back to The Time Machine - a travesty! A perversion! And don't get me started on Thunderbirds or even Planet of the Apes.
The War of the Worlds. The rumours were true. Cruise. Spielberg. What have they done with it, though. Victorian England? Too much to ask. Roosevelt's America?
No - lightning in the distance of Main Street, USA, c.2005.
The disappointment (but not, alas, the surprise...)
But then, oh then! Went on the net. Maybe at least they would have tripods...
The discovery! YOUR version! Victorian England! The Writer! And a tripod leg(?).
Hurrah! Hurrah!
Congratulations on your faith in the work and your courage to do it right! I couldn't be happier (well, maybe if I'd worked on it too - need another editor?) and more pleased - or more looking forward to the release!
All good luck and good Karma to you!!
With sincerest thanks!

The Film - WOTW
Dear Mr Hines,
I am deeply excited about the release of this film. Since I was a boy I have often asked the question as to why nobody had done this before. Quite simply, the story is so worthy in every regard. You are to be congratulated Sir for taking this stance and getting it done. What an example to set to your peers, I'm sure you'll be the envy of the movie world!
I'm sure the film will be scary, frightening and filled with exciting action, I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!
Well done again and a personal, heartfelt thank you,

Wonderful!
I have for so long wished that someone would make a genuine and faithful adaptaion of the original novel and was somewhat dissapointed to see that the Steven Spielberg/Tom Cruise version was going to do the predictable modernising and Americanising of the story - which shows a lack of faith in the movie going
audience's imagination and ability to enjoy other eras/cultures in history. A huge part of the attraction of the original novel is the setting of Victorian England and I am so gladdened to see the trailers and artwork and comments about your movie that I have read online. I wish you the very very best in this endeavour in every way.

For some time, I had been aware of your production of War of the Worlds. It was not pleasant to learn that Mr. Spielberg decided to make a film covering the same subject matter. Until today, I had despaired of seeing your effort but saw the DVD in a store near my home today.
There was no moment of debate; I was certain I would be making it part

Thank you for your work and obvious care about the source material.

Dear Folks at Pendragon,
Thank you kindly for your response. I have already ordered a copy of your WOTW DVD and we are looking very forward to it. You have done a grand job in bringing the true H.G. Well's version to life and you must ignore the negative responses you receive from customers who are wanting 'Star Wars effects' You have produced this on a budget and I do admire you for your commitment and soul drive.
I do not favour any film over another because they are different interpretations of your minds eye so it is not for me to judge on this behalf.
Some people can be cruel in their judgement over a film (you will always have negative responses) but I admire you and Mr Tim Hines for sticking your necks out to see this project through.
Good luck to you and your effects. Do not apologies for not replying individually as this is certainly impossible for you.
You are brave to bring this version to light and I wish you every success.
Please tell Mr Tim Hines that we admire him for his dream. No man or critic can vanquish that from him.
God bless,

Movie comment
Can't wait to see a very old classic novel crafted into what looks to
be a brilliant movie adaption. Bring on the Tripods!!

Dear Pendragon,
As much as I look forward to seeing the Cruise/Spielberg movie, I have a
special anticipation for you're version. I find that independent films,
although sometimes lacking in scale, often have a special feel about
them, they relly on acting and unique situations to make up for
explosions.
Good luck,

I am literally thrilled about your movie. I am a huge fan of war of the
worlds being my favorite book. I am so pleased that you didn't opt for a
modern remake and have kept this true to the time frame. I wish you every
success with this movie and will be camped outside the cinema until its
release.

Hello!
Eager anticipation
I re-read /WotW/ in the summer of 2003, because of the Mars-Earth opposition. But I'm not sure that's when I got the idea -- I really wished that someone would do a film of /The War of the Worlds/ just as
Wells wrote it, with no reference to anything that has happened in the
real world since then, no attempt to impose any other agenda on the plot
framework than what Wells originally intended. Hah, I thought: that'll happen when pigs fly, or when politicians are honest. No movie maker trusts the viewing audience to not be confused by a product not dumbed down.
It appears that I was wrong! I eagerly await the arrival of this film in the local theaters, and intend to see it at the very first opportunity. I don't think I'm going to be disappointed -- I looked at
the picture gallery, plus I watched the theatrical trailer, and it all looked right to me. I saw the picture of the man playing the Curate, and gasped -- that indeed is just how he looked, I just never knew it
before. Ditto the Artilleryman, and Mrs. Elphinstone.
I'd better cut it off here, before logorrhea sets in. I'm excited at the prospect of seeing this picture!

War of the Worlds
Hello there!!!
You cannot believe how annoyed I was when I found out that a film version was going to come out of the book, set in america in modern day...well I wasn't happy.
Then I discovered that pendragon had secretly made a film based on the book and set where it was supposed to be set!! So I am absolutly over the moon about this production!! I'm supporting it all the way I've told all my friends about it and
